2024 Australian’s of the Year - Georgina Long AO 

Georgina Venetia Long AO FRACP is Co-Medical Director of the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA), and Chair of Melanoma Medical Oncology and Translational Research at MIA and Royal North Shore Hospital, The University of Sydney.

Georgina is the first woman and the first Australian to be president of the world’s largest association of melanoma researchers and scientists, the US-based Society for Melanoma Research. She has authored over 300 publications in melanoma clinical and translational research, including papers in the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet, and has presented at hundreds of international conferences.

She became 2024 Australian of the Year alongside Co-Medical Director Professor Richard Scolyer.

2024 Australian’s of the Year - Richard Scolyer AO

Richard Anthony Scolyer AO is an Australian pathologist. He is a senior staff specialist in tissue pathology and diagnostic oncology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, co-medical director at the Melanoma Institute Australia, and Cojoint professor at the University of Sydney.

Richard received the New South Wales Premier's Award for Outstanding Cancer Research in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.

He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for "distinguished service to medicine, particularly in the field of melanoma and skin cancer, and to national and international professional organisations" in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours.

He was named 2024 Australian of the Year alongside Georgina Long.

2024 NT Young Australian of the Year - Peter Susanto

When he was two years old, Peter Susanto astounded his parents by translating words from Bahasa Indonesia into English. In 2022, he started a Bachelor of Clinical Science at Charles Darwin University on his way to a career in medicine, aged just 15.

Peter’s intelligence is phenomenal. At age 12, he won second place in the RoboCup National in Melbourne, competing against Year 11 and 12 students. He was also the first Territorian to represent Australia in the International Brain Bee Olympiad, a competition about the brain and neuroscience, and came third in the world.

He was named 2024 NT Young Australian of the Year.
